A state of emergency is currently in force in Lower Austria due to storm damage. According to Stephan Pernkopf, the deputy head of the state, the greatest attention should now be paid to the Tullnerfeld and Pielach valley areas, where the water levels have decreased and the breached dams need to be repaired in order to prevent further flooding. Disaster management is working around the clock to eliminate the damage, and they have also received help from the Burgenland fire department, who are providing support for the pumping work in the Baden and Alland regions. Two disaster prevention units arrived from Felsőpulya (Oberpullendorf) and Gyanafalva (Jennersdorf), said fire department spokesman Günter Prünner.
The traffic situation is also gradually normalizing. The A3 and A2 motorways are now open to traffic, and direct trains between Deutschkreutz and Vienna will run again from Tuesday morning. Nevertheless, train disruptions and delays can still be expected on the Deutschkreutz - Sopron - Ebenfurth - Vienna Main Station line. No trains are expected to run on the Sopron - Bécsújhely (Wiener Neustadt) railway line until midnight on September 18. Trains run between the two stations on the Fertőszentmiklós - Neusiedl am See railway line, but it is currently not possible to continue from there to Vienna, and there are no replacement buses available.
