On Wednesday, he is preparing for an outstanding event in the development of Hungary's road infrastructure. The M9 expressway is at the center of the event. According to the notification of the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM), the contract on the design of the new section of the M9 expressway will be signed in the early afternoon of June 5. This applies to the section between highways 51 and 53, between Dusnok and Tompa, on a distance of 57 kilometers.
Contracts for design work are signed in a ceremonial setting. The signing ceremony will be attended by József Pántya, Secretary of State for Road Construction of the Ministry of Energy, Gábor Bányai, Government Commissioner for the Complex Development of the Southern Great Plain Economic Development Zone and Bács-Kiskun County Member of Parliament, and Róbert Zsigó, Parliamentary State Secretary of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation. The details will be explained by these officials. According to previous information from the Ministry of Finance, the public procurement was announced in October last year. In addition to the 57-kilometer section, there are additional planning elements, such as the design of the Jánoshalmi engineering site and bicycle path between Jánoshalma and Kiskunhalas, the modification and acquisition of environmental permits, and the preparation of building permits. The M9 will be the longest motorway in Hungary. Világgazdaság reported developments on the M9 motorway in March. It was reported that Roden Kft. and Főmterv Zrt., commissioned by ÉKM, can prepare the plans for a 7-kilometer-long, two-lane expressway running from Tompa to the national border, and a new freight border crossing. The plan to build the M9 motorway has been known since 2001.
When fully completed, it would be approximately 300 kilometers long, making it the longest transit route in Hungary. Its purpose is to connect the existing radial expressway network. The final route for the construction of the M9 motorway is still being negotiated. It is also known as the "tour of the countryside", which would cross the country from west to east and connect several big cities. The cities include Debrecen, Békéscsaba, Szeged, Pécs, Kaposvár, Nagykanizsa, Zalaegerszeg, Körmend, Szombathely and Kőszeg. The completion date of the construction cannot be determined at the moment, since only 20 kilometers have been completed so far, and that too only twice on one lane.
