Penalties for highway traffic violations were handed out one after the other
September 06, 2024
Strict controls by the highway police have revealed a significant number of violations over the past week. As a result of road inspections carried out between August 26 and September 1, a total of 1,545 fines were imposed and 93 driving licenses were withdrawn. The police singled out speeding as the most common violation, for which 373 drivers were fined. But it wasn't just penalties for speeding: 141 drivers were fined for not wearing a seat belt. A further 47 fines were imposed for technical defects and 14 because the vehicles did not have a valid periodic technical inspection (ITP). Special attention was also paid to professional drivers: fines were imposed in 442 cases for violations of the rules on driving and rest time and the use of tachograph devices. Five drivers were fined for driving under the influence of alcohol, in 33 cases they acted for unjustified bribery in the stop lane, and one fine was imposed for illegal overtaking. In addition to speeding, licenses were revoked for other reasons, so a total of 93 drivers were left without a driver's license, of which speeding was the reason in 31 cases. In addition, the driving licenses of 63 vehicles were confiscated. During the inspections, the police also found 13 crimes. These data highlight the importance of strict road inspections and the fact that there are still many drivers who do not follow traffic rules, putting themselves and other road users at risk.
