Národná diaľničná spoločnost (NDS) will start construction work on the noise protection wall on the D2 highway from Monday, November 4. On the route leading to the capital, from the area of Záhoria, traffic jams often occur, where drivers lose up to 30-40 minutes in traffic. In the event of an accident, these waiting times can increase by hours. At the same time, starting Monday, motorists will have to expect additional traffic difficulties, as construction work on the noise protection wall will begin. The drainage system is also being repaired on the section between the Sitina tunnel and Bory in Bratislava. NDS spokesman Tomáš Ferenčák told public television that the entire highway drainage system will be renewed.
The number of lanes will not be reduced, but they will be narrower and the maximum permitted speed will be reduced to 80 km/h. The works will take place on a section of approximately three kilometers. According to Ľuboš Kasala, manager of the Zelená vlná traffic news service, traffic will be slower in the narrowed lanes. Motorists should expect major traffic jams not only on the D2 highway, but also on the bypass between Lamač and Hodonínska. Residents of Lamač, who have been waiting for the noise protection wall for more than a decade, often complain about the loud traffic. Igor Polakovič, the mayor of Lamač, explained on the :24 news program that the wall will be a solution for at least part of the capital's highway. The higher noise load has increased especially since the permitted speed on the city highway was increased to 130 km/h. In certain areas, the sound level can reach 60-70 decibels, which is significantly higher than the prescribed limit, especially at night.
