Exemption from paying the motorway vignette surcharge - Hungary

The operator of the vehicle can be exempted from the obligation to pay the surcharge ("motorway vignette fine") if he purchases the annual national sticker for the given vehicle within a maximum of 75 days from the receipt of the notice to pay the surcharge (but preferably as soon as possible) . This measure may result in the withdrawal of previously unpaid surcharges for the period between unauthorized road use and the purchase of the annual sticker. As a result, the national motorway vignette fee is ultimately reduced by the amount of the fine.

The application can be submitted in writing (by post or e-mail) to the National Toll Payment Service Zrt. or to the address of its contributing partner, or personally to NÚSZ Zrt. in its customer service offices.

The receipt from the purchase of the annual national sticker or a copy of the buyer's copy of the inspection slip must be attached to the application. In the case of personal administration, it is sufficient to present them.

What advantage do you get from this?

After the application has been assessed (revocation and crediting of the fine), you can get a one-year, national highway sticker at a numerically much more favorable price than the amount of the fine.
This is a good option even if you don't necessarily use the annual national highway sticker...
