Owners of electric cars do not receive a discount for the time being when purchasing motorway stickers - Petra Poláčiková, the spokesperson of the Slovak Ministry of Transport, confirmed to the SITA news agency. Based on the decision of the extraordinary meeting of the government in February, the ministry should have developed a proposal for the temporary preference of electric vehicles with regard to highway and expressway tolls in Slovakia by the end of June.
Negative budget impact "For this reason, together with the NDS, we analyzed the scope and possibilities of toll payment discounts for electric cars, including ways to amend the relevant legislation and transform the necessary IT system," said the spokesperson. The price of motorway stickers will change, a 365-day sticker can be up to 90 euros In the case of tolls, based on the agreement with the freight transport association, the so-called emission-free vehicles only pay the basic price, which is based on the principle of reimbursement of infrastructure costs, and they do not pay for CO2 emissions additional fee. However, the situation is different for highway stickers. "In the case of electronic highway stickers, we looked at several options, but all of them have an unfavorable budgetary impact, so we did not introduce discounts for electric car highway stickers," explained Poláčiková. Transition to electromobility The extraordinary government meeting on the further development of the automotive industry took place at the end of February.
After the conclusion of the meeting, Prime Minister Robert Fico said that Slovakia cannot delay the transition to electromobility. He emphasized that car production accounts for 10% of the total GDP, and Slovakia is the world leader in car production per capita. "Under such circumstances, we cannot afford the risk that Slovakia will not be prepared for the transition to electromobility," he declared. Repairing the purchase of a highway sticker has become easier for drivers. In what cases is this possible with a one-day sticker? The decision includes a number of tasks, including the support of car manufacturers, the possible preference for the purchase and leasing of electric cars, discounts on highway user fees, as well as the development of infrastructure, and the launch of a project to prepare education and the labor market in the road transport sector.
