The M6 and M8 motorways are undergoing significant road renovation works, in line with the investment plans of the M6 Duna Autópálya Koncessziós Zrt. Work began in May 2023 and is expected to be completed by the end of October 2024. The project has been going on for more than a year and covers the section of the M6 between Érdi-tetó and Dunaújváros, as well as certain sections of the M8.
The construction is carried out by SWIETELSKY Magyarország Kft., which has already completed several significant parts. The renovations affect a total of 27 kilometers, which includes the complete replacement of the pavement at several intersections and rest areas. So far, 230,000 m² of pavement has been renovated, and two junctions have also been completely renovated. The Adonyi and Dunaújváros-Észak junctions have already been completely renovated. The goals of the project include the renovation of the rest areas of the Szentmihályi and Dunaújváros complexes, as well as the renovation of six highway junctions and ten underpasses. SWIETELSKY's remit covers large-scale pavement renovation, the preparation of traffic diversion plans, and the complete implementation of the project.
During the works, the new asphalt mixing plant in Székesfehérvár, which produces with a capacity of 210 tons/hour, achieves outstanding efficiency and enables significant energy savings. The new plant provides for asphalt needs more economically than the previous capacities and enables 40% recycling of asphalt ground up during road renovations. Strictly adhering to the schedule, the renovations are planned to be completed by the end of October 2024, which will be scheduled in such a way as to cause as little disruption to traffic as possible.
Temporary traffic diversions are planned by SWIETELSKY and implemented with the approval of the road manager. The renovation works are progressing according to the 13 pre-defined diversion stations, taking into account the need for traffic diversions and the technical conditions. During construction, the most important aspect is the safe and efficient execution of work under traffic.
