Great news: a new highway may be built in Hungary
August 29, 2024
The implementation of the M100 expressway has been on the agenda for decades, and now the government has made significant progress in this matter. The goal is for all cities with county rights to be accessible twice via two-lane expressways, and Esztergom is currently one of the cities that does not yet have such a road network. The M100 road connects the M1 highway with Esztergom, on a 32.3 kilometer stretch. This project promises to be one of the most complex road construction projects of all time in Hungary, as it requires the construction of three tunnels and several valley bridges. Such technical solutions are rarely found in Hungary, which poses a special challenge for contractors. Previously, the construction was divided into two phases. The main elements of the first stage include, for example, four separate level junctions, 26 bridges and a simple rest area in Örspustan, combined with an axle weight station. The second stage includes two separate level junctions, another 26 bridges, three pairs of tunnels, noise shielding walls and hills. Tamás Menczer, the parliamentary representative of constituency No. 2 of Pest county, also emphasized that it is in the primary interest of the region that the M100 and M10 expressways be built. Traffic jams, which are a serious obstacle for motorists heading towards Budapest in the morning hours, as well as the increased freight traffic caused by 40-tonne trucks, are extremely burdensome for smaller settlements in the region, such as Piliscsaba, Pilisjászfalu, Páty and Perbál. During the negotiations with the Minister of Construction and Transport, János Lázár, it became clear that the government supports these road renovation projects, which serve to alleviate traffic difficulties and develop the region.
